Reducing water and energy consumption
A towel and linen reuse program in over 5,000 guest rooms saves an estimated 21 million gallons of water annually.
Conserving lakes, rivers and streams
Floating toilets at just one of our properties, Lake Powell, collect 250,000 gallons of sewage annually.
Cleaning up/recycling solid waste
Our award-winning Trash Tracker program collected over 676,000 lbs of trash in 2005.
Reducing our dependency on non-renewable energy sources
When running on propane, our bi-fuel trucks release approximately 40% fewer emissions than vehicles using gasoline.
ARAMARK Harrison Lodging’s commitment to Planet EVERgreen influences our operations with clearly defined objectives in 10 key areas:
1. Purchasing environmentally preferable products and services
Through Environmentally Preferable Purchasing (EPP), we select products and services that minimize negative impacts on the environment.
2. Offering organic, sustainable and environmentally friendly food products
We include organic produce and sustainable food on park menus, including grass-fed beef, sustainable managed fish species and Java City shade-grown coffee.
3. Conserving energy and water.
We identify and implement strategies for reducing water and energy consumption. We also establish baseline consumption for future comparison, identify conservation strategies and set goals.
4. Protecting and improving water quality
We care for the lakes, rivers and streams in our parks with programs that keep the water free of waste, pollution and run-off.
5. Reducing waste and implementing waste management strategies
We protect the environment by reducing, reusing and recycling to decrease solid waste and to eliminate the production of hazardous waste.
6. Using sustainable building design
We design, build, re-model, maintain and occupy with consideration to the building’s life cycle. Designs integrate optimal use of natural resources and energy and water conserving features.
7. Using efficient and environmentally friendly transportation
We reduce our dependency on non-renewable energy sources by purchasing low-emission, bi-fuel and electric vehicles and re-refined, bio-based and biodegradable fuels.
8. Educating and train our staff
We provide comprehensive training to our staff on programs such as waste management, recycling procedures, Clean Water Act requirements, resource management, sustainability, recordkeeping and Best Management Practices.
9. Educating our customers
We create positive experiences for our guests that highlight environmental and cultural awareness. Our interpretive programs educate our customers about the environment.
10. Establishing partnerships
We work as partners with organizations who share our mission to preserve and protect the environment.
